Licensing and Ordering

  1. I purchased a license. But where can I download the font?

First, make sure your order is paid and processed. You can check the status of your orders here:

    https://fdi-type.de/clients/orders/

Once an order is complete, you will find it under “Manage Purchases & Downloads”.

    https://fdi-type.de/clients/purchases/

From there you can open a purchase to:

    • find the download URL

    • check the license options

  2. Can I get a tax-free order as a European business?

If you are a business in a country of the European Union other than Germany, you can provide a valid VAT identification number during checkout to remove the VAT from the order (“reverse charge taxation”).

The VAT number is tested during checkout and the tax will only be removed if the check is successful.

Please understand that reverse charge taxation can only be processed as part of an order, not afterwards.

  3. Can I modify fonts from FDI Type?

Our 2.0 EULAs do not allow font modifications directly. But you can contact us and ask for a permission to modify a font. Please explain why you believe a modification is necessary and we will usually allow the modification.

For older orders under our 1.x licenses, modifications are always allowed.

  4. How are recurring fees for licenses paid?

For annual licenses that aren’t cancelled, a new invoice will be created every 365 days. You can choose any of our payment options each time to make the payment.

For credit card payments via Stripe, there is also an option to have the payment been taken automatically. This is the most convenient option and it is done through an authorization you have to allow explicitly. We do not store your credit card information. Even with automatic payments, you get reminder emails about upcoming and successful charges.

  5. How to cancel an annual license?

Our annual webfont licenses renew every year. We will remind you via email that a license renewal is upcoming. The invoice is created every 365 days after your initial order. You can cancel your subscription at any time if you stopped using the webfonts on the licensed domain.

    To cancel an annual license:

    1. Open fdi-type.de and log in.
    2. Click on Purchases/Licenses/Downloads in the Store menu
    3. Open the license you want to cancel
    4. Click Cancel Renewals

Not paying the invoice will also mean that the license expires, but we recommend to cancel the licenses to avoid confusion and reminder emails.

Important: Never try to reverse an already made payment through your bank or payment provider like PayPal. This would be a fraudulent action and we would be hit with significant chargeback fees, which we could legally ask you to pay back to us in addition to the renewal fee itself. So it ultimately creates more costs.

  6. Is there an education discount?

Yes! We are happy to grant a 30% discount for digital products for students and teachers who can prove their current enrollment/employment. The license is identical to the full license and doesn’t prohibit commercial work.

The education discount cannot be combined with other discounts and might not be available for certain business products.

  7. What type of licenses are available?

In our web shop, you can buy licenses for the two most-used license types:

    • desktop
    • webfonts

Additional license types (app, e-book, HTML ads) are available through MyFonts.

For other uses, please contact us.

  8. Who needs to have a license?

Any entity that is working with the actual font files needs a separate license. A design studio that is creating artworks (logos, brochures and so on) for a client needs a license. The client might not need a license if they only use and distribute the artwork made by the design studio. But if they want to edit files and install the fonts on their computers, then the client needs a separate license in their name.
